2/505th "2 Panther" Parachute Infantry Regiment has a storied history rooted in its establishment during World War II. Initially activated in 1942 at then Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the battalion distinguished itself in numerous key operations throughout the European Theater, including the famed D-Day landings and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, the battalion continued to serve as a part of the U.S. Army's airborne forces, participating in both peacetime operations and combat missions, such as those in Vietnam and Iraq. Today, the 2/505th PIR remains based at Fort Liberty, maintaining its readiness as a part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
