The 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), activated in 1952, is the U.S. Army’s oldest Special Forces unit and was originally formed to conduct unconventional warfare in Europe during the Cold War. It played a key role in building NATO partner capabilities and supporting resistance networks behind the Iron Curtain. After 9/11, the group was among the first deployed to Afghanistan, working with local forces to topple the Taliban regime. Today, 10th SFG(A) is headquartered at Fort Carson, Colorado, with elements in Germany, and continues to focus on operations across Europe and Africa.
