Established on January 1, 1941, 2/7 is a light infantry battalion within the 7th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division, based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California. Over its history, the unit has fought in key engagements from World War II (Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, Okinawa) through Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and both Iraq and Afghanistan during the Global War on Terror.
