Tank Destroyers

During World War II, the U.S. Army created tank destroyer units in response to Germany's powerful armored forces, aiming to provide a mobile and flexible solution against enemy tanks. Established in 1941, these units utilized vehicles like the M10 Wolverine and M18 Hellcat, which were designed for speed and firepower rather than heavy armor. Tank destroyer doctrine emphasized aggressive, hit-and-run tactics to counter the more heavily armored German tanks. While the concept showed mixed success in combat, the tank destroyer units left a legacy of innovation and adaptability in U.S. armored warfare.
