The 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment traces its lineage to the 6th Infantry Regiment and served in major combat operations during World War I and World War II in Europe. In 2005–2006, elements of the battalion, including B Company, deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, conducting combat operations in Ramadi, Iraq as part of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division. The battalion has undergone multiple activations and inactivations, with its lineage and honors maintained by the U.S. Army.
