The 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment is an infantry battalion of the U.S. Army assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), based at Fort Drum, New York. As part of the 10th Mountain Division, the battalion specializes in light infantry operations designed for rapid deployment and combat in austere, mountainous, and cold-weather environments. Soldiers of 2-87 Infantry have deployed in support of major operations including Afghanistan and Iraq, continuing the regiment’s legacy of disciplined, expeditionary service.
