The 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment (“Black Lions”) is part of the 28th Infantry Regiment, organized in 1901 for service in the Philippine–American War. The regiment fought in World War I and World War II, including the assault on Omaha Beach as part of the 1st Infantry Division. The battalion later served in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan before being inactivated in 2023.
