The 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, known as the “The Rock,” is an airborne infantry unit of the 173rd Airborne Brigade based in Vicenza, Italy. Activated during World War II, the battalion fought with distinction in Italy and Southern France, earning multiple campaign streamers and unit citations. It later saw extensive combat in Vietnam and deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan during the Global War on Terror. Today, the 2-503rd stands as one of the U.S. Army’s premier rapid-deployment forces, maintaining readiness to respond anywhere in the world on short notice.
