The 187th Infantry Regiment was forged at Camp Mackall in 1942 and immediately proved what it was made of — fighting through the Philippines and Okinawa in World War II with the 11th Airborne Division, then executing the first U.S. combat parachute assault of the Korean War during Operation Tomahawk in 1951. Today the Rakkasans serve as the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky — still air assault, still lethal, still first in. Fly the colors.
