The 10th U.S. Cavalry Regiment was established in 1866 as one of the Army’s original African American regular regiments and became known as part of the Buffalo Soldiers. The regiment served throughout the American West and later fought in the Spanish–American War, the Philippine–American War, and both world wars. Its legacy reflects distinguished military service, frontier duty, and the perseverance of Black soldiers who defended the nation despite discrimination and segregation.
