First of the First. 1st Battalion, 1st Marines was activated in March 1941 and has led the 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division ever since. It was reactivated at Camp Pendleton in August 1950 for Korea and fought at the Chosin Reservoir. Still based at Camp Pendleton, California, 1/1 carries that lineage into every deployment. The unit graphic is in subdued MARPAT camo colors, for Marines who keep the legacy low-key.
