First of the First. 1st Battalion, 1st Marines was activated in March 1941 and has been the lead infantry battalion of the 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division ever since. Deactivated after World War II, it was reactivated at Camp Pendleton in August 1950 for Korea and went on to fight at the Chosin Reservoir.
