The "Flying Nightmares" is the nickname for Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 513 (VMF-513), a storied aviation unit of the United States Marine Corps. Established in February 1944 during World War II, the squadron initially served as a night fighter squadron and later transitioned through various aircraft and roles, including jet fighter operations. VMFA-513 participated in major conflicts such as the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm, before being deactivated in July 2013. In 2020 the squadron was recommissioned as VMFAT-502.
