Grim Reapers VFA 101 Hoodie

VFA-101 Grim Reapers was originally established in 1952 as VF-101 and later redesignated VFA-101, serving primarily as a Fleet Replacement Squadron responsible for training Navy strike-fighter aircrews. While not sharing formal lineage with the World War II–era VF-18, the squadron adopted the historic “Grim Reapers” name and insignia, preserving that legacy in spirit and tradition. Over the decades, VFA-101 supported multiple aircraft transitions, reflecting the evolving demands of U.S. naval aviation. Reestablished in 2012 to stand up the F-35C Lightning II training pipeline, the squadron was disestablished in 2019 after successfully preparing the Navy’s first operational F-35C units.
