Over the years, the regiment gained renown for its service in various conflicts, including the Boxer Rebellion, World Wars I and II, and the Korean War, where it earned distinction for its bravery. In the modern era, the battalion served in South Korea as part of the 2nd Infantry Division, helping to maintain stability on the Korean Peninsula. However, in 2015, the 2-9 Infantry Regiment was deactivated as part of the Army's restructuring efforts, marking the end of an illustrious chapter in its history.
