The 1st Battalion, 3d Aviation Regiment—the “Vipers”—traces its lineage to 1963. Activated as the 3d Aviation Company, the unit provided critical helicopter support to ground forces in Vietnam. It later reorganized and was redesignated as the 1st Battalion, 3d Aviation Regiment, and has since served at multiple installations across the United States.
