Bronco Brigade T-shirt

The 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division—known as the “Broncos”—was activated at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and first gained combat experience in Vietnam after deploying in late 1965 as part of Operation BLUE LIGHT, then the largest combat airlift in history. Initially operating in the Central Highlands, the brigade soon moved to the division’s base at Củ Chi, conducting major operations such as CEDAR FALLS and JUNCTION CITY in 1967 to disrupt Viet Cong strongholds in the Iron Triangle and War Zone C. The Broncos fought in intense battles including the March 1967 defense of Fire Support Base GOLD during the Battle of Suoi Tre, and remained active in III Corps through the Tet Offensive of 1968, the Cambodian incursions of 1970, and until the division’s drawdown in 1971. Over their Vietnam service, the brigade became known for aggressive airmobile and search-and-destroy operations that combined infantry, armor, and artillery in coordinated strikes. Today, the 3rd Brigade remains based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, as one of the 25th Infantry Division’s primary maneuver brigades, continuing its legacy of rapid deployment and combat readiness.
