he 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment was activated in 1943 as part of the 11th Airborne Division and fought in the Pacific during World War II, including operations on Leyte and the liberation of Los Baños. After the war it was inactivated in 1948, later reactivated for service in Germany and again during the Vietnam era, and underwent several additional activations and inactivations in the decades that followed. The regiment was last inactivated on 15 June 2005 and is not currently active.
