The battalion traces its lineage to World War II and is distinguished for combat service in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, where it conducted airborne, air assault, and light infantry operations. Stationed in Vicenza, Italy, 2-503d Infantry maintains a high state of readiness to deploy quickly across the U.S. European and African theaters in support of NATO and allied operations.
