The history of VFA 143, a U.S. Navy strike fighter squadron, is marked by notable transitions and deployments. Initially established as VF-821 in 1950 and later redesignated as VF-143 in 1953, the squadron saw action during the Korean War. In 1962, it transitioned to the F-4 Phantom II and deployed seven times during the Vietnam War. A significant transformation occurred in 2005, when VF-143 was redesignated as VFA-143 and transitioned to the F/A-18E Super Hornet. Following this, VFA-143 participated in Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and operations off the Somali coast from 2006 to 2009.
