The U.S. Army’s 2nd Infantry Division is a major active-duty division headquartered at Camp Humphreys, South Korea, where it serves as a key part of the U.S.–Republic of Korea defense mission. Nicknamed the “Indianhead” Division, it was first organized in 1917 and fought in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and later supported operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Today, the division’s mission is focused on deterring aggression on the Korean Peninsula, strengthening the U.S.–ROK alliance, and remaining ready to “fight tonight” if needed.
