Task Force Ranger Hoodie

Operation Gothic Serpent was a U.S.-led mission in 1993 aimed at capturing key lieutenants of Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid, who was undermining peace efforts and attacking United Nations forces. The operation involved elite units including the U.S. Army Rangers, Delta Force, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, and U.S. Air Force Combat Controllers and Pararescuemen from the 24th Special Tactics Squadron. On October 3-4, 1993, a raid in Mogadishu escalated into a fierce urban battle after two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down. The resulting engagement, known as the Battle of Mogadishu or “Black Hawk Down,” led to the deaths of 18 American servicemembers and hundreds of Somali fighters and civilians. The intensity of the battle and the public reaction prompted a shift in U.S. foreign policy and the eventual withdrawal of American troops from Somalia.
