Triple Nickles Hoodie

The 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, known as the Triple Nickles, was the first all-Black airborne unit in the history of the U.S. Army, activated during World War II in 1943. Trained as paratroopers at a time when the U.S. military was still segregated, they never deployed overseas but were assigned to a critical domestic mission known as Operation Firefly. In 1945, the battalion conducted combat jumps into the Pacific Northwest to combat forest fires caused by Japanese balloon bombs, making them the first U.S. smokejumpers. Their legacy is significant not only for their pioneering role in airborne and firefighting operations, but also for breaking racial barriers and paving the way for the desegregation of the U.S. armed forces.
