517 PIR Hoodie

The 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment was activated in March 1943 at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, and trained as an elite airborne infantry formation during World War II. It deployed to the European Theater in 1944, fighting in Italy before participating in Operation Dragoon, the airborne invasion of Southern France. The regiment conducted extensive combat operations across the Maritime Alps and later reinforced Allied lines during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, the 517th PIR was inactivated in 1946, with its lineage carried on through subsequent airborne and infantry units.
