5-2 Infantry Hoodie

The 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division was activated on May 4, 2007 at Fort Lewis, Washington, as the Army’s seventh Stryker Brigade Combat Team, with the motto “Strike, Destroy.” Designed for rapid deployment and equipped with eight-wheeled Stryker armored vehicles, it provided a medium-weight mechanized infantry capability between light infantry and heavy armor. In summer 2009, the brigade became the first Stryker unit deployed to Afghanistan, conducting operations in southern provinces such as Kandahar and Helmand during Operation Enduring Freedom, where it faced intense combat and sustained significant casualties. Following its return, the brigade was inactivated on July 22, 2010 and reflagged as the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. Despite its short existence, the unit left a legacy of high-tempo operations and notable contributions to the Afghanistan surge effort.
