The 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment traces its lineage to the original 10th Infantry Regiment, constituted in 1855 and serving prominently on the western frontier before fighting in the Civil War, Spanish–American War, and both World Wars. During the Cold War, elements of the regiment were stationed in Europe as part of U.S. Army occupation and deterrence forces. The battalion itself was later reorganized under the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, becoming part of the 3rd Chemical Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood. Today, 3-10 Infantry serves as a Basic Combat Training unit responsible for preparing new soldiers for service in the United States Army.
