The 2d Cavalry Regiment is a U.S. Army Stryker brigade-sized formation currently based in Germany, serving as a forward-deployed force for NATO operations across Europe. Its lineage traces back to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (2nd ACR), a Cold War–era unit renowned for border security and armored reconnaissance missions along the inner German border. 2d Cavalry is the longest active serving regiment in the United States Army. In 2011, the regiment was reorganized and redesignated as the 2d Cavalry Regiment, preserving the heritage and traditions of 2nd ACR while transitioning to a modern Stryker cavalry role.
